NARROW - lobes usually less than 4 mm

NEITHER - neither sorediate nor isidiate

BROWN - light to dark brown (or greenish brown)

BLACK TO SLATE - black, dark olive-green, or slate gray; gelatinous when wet

FLAT - branches flattened in cross-section
